About Us
The Feminist Macro Economics Alliance – Malawi (FEAM) is a women’s rights-centered coalition working to deepen knowledge, capacity, and skills of young women and their allies to engage and influence macro-economic policies and frameworks including debt management from a feminist perspective to achieve economic justice for women in Malawi. The alliance came about as a realization that national coordination is key to achieving economic justice for women. The alliance’s founding members are ActionAid Malawi, NGO Gender Coordination Network (NGOGCN), Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC), For Equality (FE), and Activista Youth Network.
The purpose of the Feminist Macroeconomics Alliance – Malawi (FEAM) is to act as a coordinating platform for collective action forum that unites feminists, women’s rights, and young women serving organizations and activists across the country to advocate for and influence gender just macroeconomic policies and thereby:
- Enhance the capacities of members to better understand and advocate for gender-just macroeconomic policies;
- Build a body of knowledge and facilitate knowledge exchange and dissemination on feminist macroeconomic policies, public debt, and illicit financial flows;
- Foster collaboration on national and international initiatives between Members, and other key stakeholders;
- Provide a platform for a national conversation on feminist macroeconomics. The FEAM is the only local platform that is actively engaging in feminist macroeconomics;
The ultimate goal of all FEAM activities is to commit to economic justice for women by influencing the policy processes.
